Story for the Worker

I've been with an online dating website for four months and still haven't found that someone special, don't get me wrong there were a few profiles I liked and messages were sent to and fro, but that's just how it stayed and eventually the messages stopped.

I've started to think, I'm never going to find that someone special. That someone special who will take me out to dance on our passionate first date. I think it's time I stop dreaming.

I got on with my usual day to day routine, getting up, going to work and heading to my local bar for a few drinks with some friends. What else could I do?

And yes, I was jealous of some of my friends, as some were in serious passionate relationships, which I envied so much.

Until one Saturday night. I was out at my local bar with some friends, when he caught my eye, he was tall, dark and gorgeous! But I doubt he's interested in me.

As the weeks came and went, I still saw him at the bar on Saturday nights. My friends begged me to just go over and introduce myself but I couldn't, there was too many what ifs in my mind. What if he wasn't interested? Or he could have a girlfriend. He was too gorgeous to be single and I could make a complete fool of myself.

Until one night, he came over to the bar where I was stood with some friends to order his drink and he smiled at me. "Hi, I'm Malcolm, can I buy you a drink?" he asked me. My stomach filled with butterfly's, could this really be happening? I managed to introduce myself and accepted his drink. We spent most of the night chatting. As the night was nearing an end, I realised that my friends had already left. Malcolm offered to share a taxi home.

Once I was home, Malcolm said he'll see me next week, same time, same place, as he would like to get to know me better. He left me on my doorstep after he gave me a kiss on my cheek. Now, my stomach was doing somersaults. I then realised he is quite a passionate person and couldn't wait to see him again.

Finally, Saturday night is here, as I got ready I thought, would tonight be classed as a first date? I guess I'll have to see where the night takes us.

The night was brilliant, we chatted, we danced and we chatted and danced some more. He was good on the dance floor, definitely knew how to move to the music. It was like my dream has come true. Having fun on the dance floor on the first date. But was this the first date? It was so, as he asked me to become his girlfriend at the end of the night.

A year later, he proposed and now we are planning our dream wedding. I'm glad it didn't work out on the online dating website otherwise I wouldn't have found Malcolm. I guess what's meant to be will happen.
